FTTP rollout happens in stages, and nearby premises can have different results. Use an address-level checker and treat future dates as estimates, not guarantees.
What does FTTP mean?
Full Fibre, also called Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), uses fibre optic cable all the way to the premises. Availability depends on the network serving your address and whether an orderable service has been made available there.
Why does my neighbour have it first?
Network builds happen in stages. Openreach notes that one property can be ready before another nearby address. Distance from a fibre route alone does not confirm that a premises is ready: building access, duct or pole work, permissions, capacity and address records can affect progress.
How to check properly
Use Openreach’s Fibre Checker with the full postcode and exact address, and check Ofcom’s broadband checker for a wider view of services and providers. A checker may show services available now and sometimes planned work. If your building is split into units, test the exact business address or unit rather than relying on a neighbouring postcode.
What a future status does—and does not—tell you
A planned or in-progress result is not an installation appointment or guaranteed availability date. Openreach says timing depends on factors including existing infrastructure, permissions and local demand. Providers may show different products and dates because they sell services over different networks. Confirm availability and installation lead time with the provider before making business plans around it.
What to do while waiting
Compare the services that can be ordered now, including the underlying technology, upload speed, service support and installation requirements. If connectivity is business-critical, consider a tested 4G or 5G backup where coverage and capacity suit your site. Keep a note of checker results and check again periodically; register interest where the network owner offers that option.
Plan around the address, not the postcode
The reliable answer comes from a current check on the exact premises and confirmation from a provider that can take an order. No national rollout statistic can promise when an individual business will be connected. The Calls Warehouse can help compare available options for your address.
