Choose communications around the way customers reach you and the work your team actually does. Confirm what can be installed at your exact address before you commit.
Start with the way you work
A shop, home office, workshop and mobile team do not need the same setup. Before choosing a package, write down where staff work, how customers contact you, which applications you use and what happens if the internet or power fails.
Your opening checklist
1. Check broadband options at the exact premises and ask about installation lead times. 2. Decide whether you need a dedicated business number, call routing, voicemail or a multi-user phone system. 3. Check mobile coverage indoors and where staff travel. 4. List connected equipment such as tills, alarms and card terminals. 5. Choose a backup route if an outage would stop trading. 6. Record contract dates, price changes, notice rules and support arrangements.
Numbers and phone systems
Decide whether to use a new number or transfer an existing one. If keeping a number, ask the new provider to manage the port and confirm timing before cancelling the existing service. Check how calls will be answered when you are busy, closed or away from the premises.
Broadband and installation
A service that appears in a postcode search may not be orderable at your exact unit. Ask the provider to confirm the technology, expected speed range, upload speed, installation work, equipment, and any one-off charges. Leave time for wayleaves or building access arrangements if needed.
Make a short continuity plan
Name the person who contacts the provider, keep account details accessible, and decide how staff will take payments and contact customers during an outage. A mobile hotspot can help only if signal, data allowance and device capacity have been checked at the site.
Keep the paperwork together
Save the order confirmation, contract summary, service terms, installation appointment, numbers and support contact in one place. Set reminders for renewal and review the bill after the first month. If you employ ten people or fewer, Ofcom’s small-business contract guidance may apply to your landline and broadband services.
Get the basics in place before launch
Order lead times and number transfers can take longer than expected, so check availability early. A short review of address, numbers, equipment and backup can prevent avoidable opening-day surprises. The Calls Warehouse can help you plan a right-sized setup.
